'e-skin' The future of smartphones
Scientists of University of Tokyo have developed an 'ultra flexible organic photonic skin' shortly called 'e-skin'. This is made from organic electronics that doesn't degrade when exposed to air. Organic electronics, made from carbon based polymers, are far lighter and more flexible than silicon based materials. But, they have one problem. They normally degrade in air, so protective coatings are needed. But these protective coatings reduces it's flexibility. But, now the team from Japan has created a new protective coating to shield it from air and also it is very light and doesn't reduce it's flexibility. Previous organic electronic displays have been built using glass or plastic based materials, but their flexibility was reduced. In the near future, this technology could be used to monitor people's health. We can believe that one day we will be able to use our 'e-skin' as a replacement to traditional watches and smart watches.
